Control type and angles are as stated on each manufacturer's Amazon listing. The FOXWELL Y400 is included for comparison because it is often cross-shopped, but it uses a thumb wheel rather than a joystick. "Not stated" means the listing gives no figure.
How to Choose a Joystick Borescope
The control system is only part of it; four points decide:
Four-Way or Two-Way
Four-way joysticks rotate and flex the head and usually lock it. Two-way joysticks sweep one plane; you twist the cable for the rest. Four-way is faster, two-way is slimmer.
Angle Lock
A lock holds the tip while you study the screen or take a photo. It is stated on the N180 and the Ralcam 360; check the listing on others.
Replaceable Parts
Articulation cables wear. A replaceable snake tube, as on the M5, turns a worn scope into a parts order rather than a new purchase.
Runtime and Storage
Stated runtimes run from about 5 hours upward. A detachable battery and a 32 GB card keep a daily-use scope working through a shift.
What is the difference between a joystick borescope and a thumb-wheel borescope?
Both steer the tip mechanically. A thumb wheel moves it in one plane, so it is always two-way. A joystick can do the same on a two-way scope, or on a four-way scope it moves the head in two planes and rotates it, which is why four-way models are almost always joystick controlled.
Does four-way articulation mean 360 degree rotation?
On the listings here it does: the Ralcam M5, Ralcam 360 and Mrcartool N180 all state four-way 360 degree steering. The N180 also states 210 degrees of flexion. Read both figures, because rotation tells you where the tip can point and flexion tells you how sharply it can bend.
Why would I want a replaceable snake tube?
The steering cables inside an articulating probe are the part that wears, and a crushed or bent tip can end the life of the whole scope. A modular tube, as Ralcam states for the M5, lets you fit a new or different-size probe to the same handle and screen.
Can I use these on a phone instead of the built-in screen?
Some can. The Mrcartool N180 states a phone data cable and Android app support, with iOS not currently available. The Ralcam M5 states file transfer to a computer. The Teslong 5.5 mm scope is designed to work without a phone or app. None of them require a phone to operate.

Ralcam states a modular snake cable that swaps out for different sizes, which addresses the usual end of life for an articulating scope, a worn steering cable or damaged tip: replace the tube and the rest carries on. The joystick is stated as SUS304 stainless steel, chosen, per the listing, for frequent industrial use.
Steering is four-way 360 degree, described as smoother than the earlier Ralcam model, on a 6.2 mm IP67 probe with six LEDs plus one and three brightness levels. The 5-inch HD display, 4x digital zoom and 180 degree image flip cover the viewing side; a 5000 mAh detachable battery is rated for up to 5 hours, and a high-temperature warning triggers at 90 C. It supports a 32 GB card.
The listing omits camera resolution, the length of the supplied tube, and whether an angle lock is included. Owners of the earlier Ralcam 360 praise its lock, but it is not stated for the M5. It is the pick for a shop that uses a scope every day.

Mrcartool N180 4-Way Articulating Borescope Best 4-Way Value
The N180 delivers the full four-way joystick experience at the mid-range tier, and unlike the M5 its listing states the angle lock outright: the probe bends, rotates and locks at any angle, which the manufacturer says removes the need to twist the cable by hand, with 360 degree rotation and 210 degree flexion on a 6.2 mm probe and a 4 ft semi-rigid cable.
The imaging specification is the most detailed here. Three capture modes run from 1280x720 to 2592x1944, the 5-inch IPS screen is 1080p with 8x zoom, and photos and video go to a built-in 32 GB card as JPG and AVI. The probe is IP67 and oil-resistant, six LEDs have four brightness levels, and a temperature sensor alarms above 85 C and pauses the image until the probe cools.
Two things to know: it carries two look-alike cables, silver for the handle and black for phone data, and swapping them gives no signal; and iOS app support is not currently available. Battery capacity is not stated. For an automotive shop that wants four-way steering without the M5 outlay, it is the buy.

Not every job needs four-way steering, and a two-way joystick scope is thinner and simpler. Teslong states a thumb-operated joystick that sweeps the tip through 180 degrees and holds any position, which is the part of joystick control that matters most: you can leave the camera looking at a valve seat while you study the screen.
The probe is 5.5 mm, the slimmest in this group, on a 5 ft cable, and the screen is a 5-inch 1280x720 IPS panel with 1.3x and 1.5x digital magnification. Six LEDs with brightness control, a 3000 mAh battery with USB-C charging, a hard case and an SD card complete the kit. It works without a phone, wireless or app.
The limits are inherent to two-way: the plane of articulation is changed by rotating the cable by hand, and there is no rotation or lock in the head. The listing does not state camera resolution or an ingress rating. Why the joystick matters
An articulating borescope steers its camera tip with cables inside the probe. How you drive those cables changes how the tool feels: a thumb wheel or slider moves the tip in one plane, while a joystick can move it in two planes and, on four-way models, rotate the head and lock it. The practical result is that a joystick scope is used one-handed. One thumb steers while the other hand feeds and rotates the cable, and on a four-way model the cable rarely needs rotating at all. Manufacturers make this point directly: Mrcartool describes the N180 as eliminating manual cable twisting, and the Ralcam listings describe the joystick as letting one person hold the monitor and control the cable. Four-way versus two-way joysticks
Two of the three picks are four-way. The Ralcam M5 and Mrcartool N180 both state 360 degree steering, and the N180 adds 210 degrees of flexion and a lock at any angle. The Ralcam 360, the earlier model in the table, states the same four-way 360 steering with a lock. The Teslong 5.5 mm is two-way: its joystick sweeps 180 degrees in one plane and holds position, and the plane is changed by twisting the cable. Two-way is not a lesser tool for every job. It allows a thinner probe and fewer moving parts, and for looking at valves through a plug hole it is enough. Four-way earns its cost when you need to look around an object, such as a piston crown or a weld root, without disturbing the cable position.
The lock and the replaceable tube
Two features separate the industrial-grade joystick scopes from the rest. The first is an angle lock, which holds the tip where you put it so you can take a photo or study the image.
