T TAKMLY Dual Lens Borescope Review: The Listing Tells You It Cannot Record

Buried in the first bullet is a note most manufacturers would have deleted: the endoscope cannot take pictures and videos. That one sentence decides who this tool is for, and it is not the person writing a report.

This is a dual lens inspection camera with a front and a side camera on an 8 mm probe, a 4.3 inch IPS screen, a 2 cm to 10 cm focus window, a 16.4 ft semi rigid cable, IP67 rating, eight adjustable LEDs and a 2000 mA battery. Its own listing states that it cannot take pictures and videos. That single line is the review: this is a look now instrument, not an evidence gathering one.

The disclosure that most listings would have removed

The display bullet opens conventionally enough, promising a 4.3 inch colour HD display for viewing 1080P images in real time and easy inspection of hard to reach areas. Then it ends with this: Note, the endoscope cannot take pictures and videos.

Consider what a marketing department would normally do with that sentence. It contradicts the HD framing, it removes a feature buyers assume is present, and nothing compels its publication. It is there anyway, and that deserves credit.

It also demands a decision from the reader rather than from us. If your inspections end in a conversation, a quote or a repair you carry out yourself, you may never miss the capture function. If they end in a photograph attached to a report, a landlord record or a warranty claim, this tool cannot do the job, and no amount of image quality compensates.

Two lenses are a different answer to the steering problem

Every borescope has to solve the same difficulty: the thing you want to see is often beside the probe rather than ahead of it.

The expensive answer is an articulating head you steer. The answer here is a second camera facing sideways, switchable from the handset. The listing states one side camera and one front camera that can be switched at any time, both at 1920 by 1080.

The trade is real in both directions. A side camera always works, never jams, costs nothing to operate and adds no bulk to the probe tip. But it looks in one fixed direction, so aiming it means rotating the whole cable, and a semi rigid cable twisted at the handle does not necessarily twist at the tip. A steerable head gives you continuous control. For a flat decision, our dual lens borescope comparison sets out which jobs each suits.

The focus window is the specification to respect

The listing states an 8.0 mm diameter camera with a focal length of 2 cm to 10 cm. Publishing that window is unusual and useful.

Borescope cameras do not autofocus. They have a fixed focus set to a distance, with a usable range either side of it. Inside the window, detail resolves. Outside it, the picture softens whatever the sensor resolution says.

Two centimetres to ten centimetres is a close working window, and it tells you what the tool was designed around: looking at a surface a hand span away or less. Inside a pipe of modest diameter the wall is always in that window. Looking down the length of a wide duct, the far end never is. If you need to read something across a void, the image will be soft and the fault is the optics, not your technique.

Cable, lighting and the standby number

Specification Published in the listing
Cameras Front and side, switchable, 1920 by 1080 each
Probe diameter 8.0 mm
Focus window 2 cm to 10 cm
Cable 16.4 ft semi rigid
Screen 4.3 inch IPS
Lighting Eight adjustable LEDs on the front camera, can be switched off
Protection IP67
Battery 2000 mA, up to five hours standby, about three hours to charge
Image or video capture Stated as not supported
Articulation None, the side camera serves that purpose

The LED detail worth noting is that they can be turned off entirely. That sounds trivial and is not. A probe lit at full brightness inside a shiny pipe produces glare that hides everything; with ambient light coming from the open end, lights off is sometimes the only way to see.

The battery figure is quoted as standby time, which is a weaker claim than continuous use. Eight LEDs at full brightness driving a screen will not run for five hours on 2000 mA. Expect less, and note that the listing never promises otherwise.

The honest recommendation

At 16.4 ft with a semi rigid cable, an 8 mm probe, IP67 and two fixed viewing directions, this is a sensible drain, duct and cavity tool for someone who inspects and then acts. It reaches properly, it survives wet work, and the side camera handles the sideways look without a mechanism to break.

Do not buy it if anything you find needs to be shown to somebody else, because the listing states it cannot capture. Do not buy it for spark plug ports, because 8 mm will not enter. And if you need to choose the direction of view rather than accept two fixed ones, a documented articulating unit is the category you want.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it really not record anything?

The listing states it plainly, in a note at the end of the display bullet: the endoscope cannot take pictures and videos. For a tool that advertises 1080P HD this is a surprising limitation and an unusually honest disclosure. Treat it as a live viewing instrument only. If you need evidence of what you found, this is the wrong tool and no accessory fixes it.

What do the two lenses give you?

A front camera and a side camera on the same probe head, switchable at any time according to the listing. The front view is for travelling along a pipe or looking into a cavity. The side view is for examining a wall beside the probe without any steering mechanism, which is how a non articulating unit gets a sideways look. It is a cheaper answer to the same problem a steerable head solves, and a less flexible one, because the side camera points where it points.

What is the focus range and why does it matter?

The listing states a focal length of 2 cm to 10 cm. That is the window in which the image is sharp. Closer than 2 cm and further than 10 cm, detail softens regardless of the 1920 by 1080 sensor. For a borescope this is as important as resolution and most listings omit it, so publishing it is a point in this one favour.

Is the 8 mm probe diameter a problem?

It depends entirely on the hole. Eight millimetres is fine for drains, ducts, wall cavities and most engine bay work through existing gaps. It will not pass a typical spark plug port, where you need about 5.5 mm or less. Since the listing does publish the diameter, you can at least check before buying, which is more than several competitors allow.

How long does the battery last?

The listing states a 2000 mA rechargeable battery giving up to five hours of standby time and about three hours to fully charge. Note the word standby. Standby and continuous use with eight LEDs lit are different numbers, and the listing publishes only the first.
