Temtop M10i Review: Wi-Fi Air Quality Monitoring for Home Use

The Temtop M10i is the Wi-Fi version of the compact M10 series. It is not currently listed on Amazon US under its own name; the related listing is the M10+. This review explains what the M10i is, how it differs from the M10+ and the original M10, and who should wait for it rather than buy a sibling.

Verdict

The M10i is Temtop’s Wi-Fi model in the compact M10 series. According to Temtop’s documentation it measures PM2.5, formaldehyde, TVOC and AQI on a small colour display and sends the readings to the Temtop app over Wi-Fi, so you can check history and receive alerts away from home. It does not measure CO₂. The M10i is not currently listed on Amazon US under its own name; the related listing is the M10+, a Bluetooth model that swaps formaldehyde for CO₂ and uses an e-ink display. Which one you want depends on the question you are asking: formaldehyde after a renovation with remote access points to the M10i, ventilation and bedroom use on battery points to the M10+.

What the M10i Measures

PM2.5 comes from an optical laser sensor and reacts within minutes to cooking, candles and smoke. Formaldehyde is the sensor that distinguishes the M10 and M10i from most compact monitors; Temtop uses electrochemical HCHO cells across its range, which respond to formaldehyde specifically but cross-react with alcohols such as hand sanitiser. TVOC is a relative index from a semiconductor sensor. AQI is calculated from PM2.5. None of these is a laboratory measurement; they are trend indicators that tell you whether ventilation or a purifier is working. Wi-Fi and the App

Wi-Fi is the reason to buy the M10i over the M10. Readings upload to the Temtop app, where history graphs and threshold alerts are available from anywhere. That suits a rented flat with a suspicious smell, a nursery you want to check from work, or a room where new furniture is off-gassing. The cost of Wi-Fi is power: the M10i is designed to live on USB power rather than to run for weeks on battery like the M10+. Owners of the M10 family generally describe the app as adequate rather than polished; the value is in the remote access, not the interface.

Placement and Power

A formaldehyde monitor is most informative in the room with the suspected source, at roughly the height where people breathe, and away from open windows that would dilute the reading before the sensor sees it. Because the M10i is expected to stay on USB power, choose a spot near an outlet and leave it for at least a day: formaldehyde off-gassing rises with temperature and humidity, so a reading taken on a cool morning can understate what the room does on a warm afternoon. Keep sanitiser, perfume and spray cleaners away from the unit while it is measuring, as the electrochemical cell responds to alcohols. A compact monitor like this also warms slightly on continuous power, which is normal and does not affect the gas readings.
