Temtop M100 Review: Connected Multi-Sensor Air Quality Tracking

The Temtop M100 was the company's first large-screen Wi-Fi air quality monitor. It has been superseded by the M100 2nd Gen, which is the model on Amazon. This review explains what the original offered, what the second generation changed, and whether an original unit is still worth owning.

Verdict

The original Temtop M100 was a desktop air quality monitor with a colour touchscreen, Wi-Fi and the Temtop app, measuring CO₂, PM2.5, PM10, TVOC, temperature and humidity. It was aimed at offices, classrooms and homes that wanted one prominent display and remote access. It has been replaced by the M100 2nd Gen, which is the model currently listed on Amazon US and which adds a larger 7-inch screen, LoRa networking for satellite sensors, calibration of more parameters and a bigger battery. If you are buying new, the 2nd Gen is the one to buy. If you own or are offered an original M100, it remains a capable monitor whose sensor set is the same at heart; what you lose is the building-wide networking and the refinements to the interface.

Sensors

Temtop describes an NDIR CO₂ sensor, a laser particle sensor and a TVOC sensor across the M100 line, with the 2nd Gen listing naming NDIR explicitly. NDIR is the right technology for a CO₂ monitor used to judge ventilation, and the laser sensor is the standard consumer approach to PM2.5 and PM10. TVOC is a relative index. The combination means the M100 answers the two questions that matter in a shared room: is there enough fresh air, and is something in the air that should not be. Display and App

The point of the M100 design is a screen large enough that everyone in the room can see the CO₂ number. In a meeting room that changes behaviour: when the number turns red, someone opens a door. The Temtop app adds remote viewing, history and notifications over Wi-Fi. Owners of the original describe the app as functional; the 2nd Gen listing adds daily and monthly graphs, max and min tracking and remote device management, which suggests the software has moved on considerably.

Should You Buy an Original M100?

Only at a clear discount and only if you want a single-room display without networking. The 2nd Gen’s LoRa extension is the feature that turns the M100 into a building system, and the added calibration options and larger battery are practical improvements. Firmware and app support will also favour the current model over time. If you already own an original, it is worth keeping as the display for one room and adding a 2nd Gen only when you need the multi-room coverage.
