The TOPDON TC002 brought the 256×192 detector to iPhones with a Lightning port. Apple has since moved to USB-C, and TOPDON's listed model is now the TC002C Duo. This review explains what the TC002 offers, which iPhones it fits, and when the TC002C is the model to buy instead.

The TC002 is TOPDON’s answer to the FLIR ONE for iPhone owners with a Lightning port: a 256×192 detector, TISR upscaling to 512×384, a wide measurement range and the TopInfrared app, without a battery to charge. Its relevance today depends on your phone. If you have an iPhone 14 or earlier, it remains the highest-resolution plug-in option for that connector. If you have an iPhone 15 or later, the connector is wrong and the TC002C Duo, which is the model currently listed on Amazon US, is the one to buy. The two cameras share their imaging specification; the difference is the port.

Using It on an iPhone

The TC002 plugs straight into the Lightning port and is powered by the phone, so there is nothing to charge. Owners report that it works through most thin cases and that runtime is limited only by the phone battery. There is no MSX-style edge overlay; the app’s fusion mode uses the phone camera, which is offset from the thermal lens, so alignment is approximate.
